A DTV converter box is a device that allows an analog TV set to receive digital broadcasts. On June 12, 2009, all analog television broadcasts will be turned off. Digital signals will be the only available broadcast. Analog television sets will no longer work. In order to still use these sets, users will need a digital tv converter box. In the U.S. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) will issue each household two coupons to subsidize the costs of the DTV converter boxes.
