• Drupal is a powerful open-source content management system. Drupal went open source in 2001 after initially being developed by Dries Buytaert to serve as a bulletin board system. The current version allows site admins to create/edit content, alter display settings and manage the base of registered users. A large community of developers and designers help by creating then sharing patches, themes and modules.
  • Origin of the Name

Drupal was chosen by Buytaert as a transliteration of the Dutch word "druppel", which translates to drop or droplet. The name was taken from Drop.org, whose code served as an earliy inspiration for later generations of Drupal code.
