Droid phones are a series of smartphones sold by Verizon Wireless. The most popular of these phones is the Motorola Droid. The second is the Droid Eris. Both phones run versions of Google's Android operating system, although the Motorola version is a more advanced phone operating a newer version of the OS. Verizon is expected to launch further Android-based phones, possibly under the Droid moniker.
The Motorola Droid was released by Verizon on November 6, 2009. It originally launched with version 2.0 of Android, but is being updated to Android 2.1. Features of the phone include Wi-Fi networking, a 5-megapixel camera, standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, swappable battery and a 3.7-inch 854 x 480 mutlti-touch capacitive touchscreen display. Verizon's Motorola Droid
The Motorola Droid smartphone sold by Verizon Wireless was the first of the new generation of Android-based phones featuring version 2.0 of the Google operating system. The phone received an update to the Android 2.1 operating system, the operating system that was launched with Google's Nexus One smartphone in early 2010. New features of the updated OS include multi-touch featuring pinch-to-zoom in the browser, gallery and maps applications and enhancement to the voice recognition and keyboard. Photo galleries have been 3D-enhanced with Cooliris, a new music playback application is included, bug fixes have been made and Google Googles has been integrated. Motorola Devour
Verizon Wireless launched a third Android-based phone on March 15, 2010 named the Motorola Devour. The mid-range phone has a sliding keyboard, Wi-Fi and 3G mobile broadband. The slider phone has a 3.1-inch HVGA (320 by 480 pixel) capacitive touch screen. The device has a landscape-oriented QWERTY keyboard with a trackpad located next to the screen.
