Drifting (motorsport)

Drifting refers to a driving technique as well as a motorsport. A drift occurs when the car's rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn. This gives the car the appearance of driving sideways.

Fast Facts:

  1. Began as a racing technique popular in the All Japan Touring Car Championship races in the 1970's
  2. Drifting competitions are judged based on line, angle, speed, and show factor
  3. The film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is based on this driving technique
