Version CS5 of the program costs $399.http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/whatisdreamweaver/
Originally developed by Macromedia in 1997, it was one of the first WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Web design programs.http://www.fundinguniverse.com/company-histories/Macromedia-Inc-Company-History.html The application let designers make websites even if they did not have HTML programming skills. However, programmers could still manually place code into the application while viewing visual updates in real time.
Dreamweaver, as well as other Macromedia programs, was purchased by Adobe Systems Incorporated. The acquisition took place on April 15, 2005 for $3.4 billion dollars.http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pdfs/acquisitionfacts.pdf After Dreamweaver was added to the Adobe product line, it could be purchased in the Adobe Web Bundle.http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/pressroom/pdfs/acquisitionfacts.pdf
How Dreamweaver Works
Dreamweaver allows users who do not know HTML, or any other computer languages, to write Web pages via a WYSIWYG editor. It is an editable display of the finished page layout. This allows the user to edit text or other elements directly on the page and use drag and drop functions to move images and other multimedia elements around the page. A person can use this window for all of his editing, or he can use the text window, which displays the actual code behind the Web page. Many users, who have a moderate level of coding proficiency, like to use both methods. When projects are finished, Dreamweaver's built-in FTP uploading utility can be used to move files from the local hard drive to an Internet server of the user's choice.
