Dragon Millipede

The "shocking pink" dragon millipede, found by a zoological exploration team in Thailand, was named one of the Top 10 species discovered in 2007 by the International Institute for Species Exploration (IISE) based at Arizona State University. The Dragon Millipede

Colored a bright pink, researchers believe the dragon millipede wards off predators to its toxicity. Millipedes have glands that produce cyanide. The dragon millipede was discovered in a collapsed Permian limestone cavern in Thailand.

1,000+ New Species

In December 2008, the World Wildlife Fund said that scientists had discovered or identified 1068 new species in the Greater Mekong Region of Southeast Asia between 1997 and 2007.
