After you've finished the quest to get into Kirkwall, one year will pass for the player with a short, informative cutscene. Players will then meet Varric, the dwarven rogue who will offer you a way to become a partner in his brother's (Bartrand) Deep Roads Expedition, the main quest of the First Act of the game. After the cutscene, you can begin completing quests on your way to set up for the Expedition.
