Dragon Age 2 - Family Matter is the companion quest for Varric, your dwarven rogue party member. For this walkthrough, players will track down Bartrand, Varric's brother, the same dwarf that led the Deep Roads Expedition and then left your party to die. This quest is a good way to expand the storyline of the game, even though it is not required.

1. To get this quest, visit Varric at the Hanged Man pub in Act 2 and speak with him about Bartrand. You may have to talk about some other topics first.
2. Go to Hightown at night.
3. Go to the quest location by following the arrow.
4. As usual in Hightown (and Kirkwall at night in general) you will be ambushed by some annoying mercenaries.
5. Enter the Estate (make sure to have Varric in your party).
6. You will have to kill some enemies just with Varric to initiate a cutscene.
7. After the cutscene, you will return to the true retelling of the story with your whole party.
8. Head into the estate.
9. Kill the mercenaries as you head deeper into the building.
10. Speak with the Steward and continue on.
11. You will have to fight Bartrand, as he has been driven crazy by the artifact you found all the way back in the Deep Roads.
12. Speak with Bartrand.
13. Decide to let him go, or to kill him.
