On September 1, 1950 Phillip Calvin McGraw was born in Vinita, Oklahoma. McGraw attended the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma where he was awarded a football scholarship. However, he finished his degree at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas. Dr. Phil first started a practice together with his father treating patients on a one-on -one basis only to find out that he was better at motivational speaking. It was through his company named Courtroom Sciences that he met Oprah Winfrey in 1996. Dr. Phil was hired by the day time talk show hostess during her trial vs cattlemen. After winning the trial in 1998 she made Dr. Phil a regular guest on her show.
In the fall of 2002, Dr. Phil became the host of his own daytime talk show, The Dr. Phil Show. The show received the highest ratings of any syndicated program since the launch of the Oprah Winfrey Show. McGraw has been married to his wife Robin Jameson since 1976.
