Dr. Kimberly James specializes in Obstetrics & Gynecology and is treating Thomas Beatie during his pregnancy.

After being turned down by nine different doctors, pregnant man, Thomas Beatie and wife Nancy found Dr. James, who was willing to treat Beatie during his pregnancy. Thomas was refused care by other doctors because he is a transgender man, originally born a woman. Beatie previously underwent breast reconstructive surgery and began testosterone therapy, but kept his female reproductive organs.

Wife Nancy was unable to have children after a hysterectomy, so the married couple decided that Thomas should carry the baby. In October of 2007, Thomas became pregnant using a home insemination kit. He is carrying a baby girl and expected to give birth in July.
