Douglas Lute

Lieutenant General Douglas is President Barack Obama's deputy national security adviser for Iraq and Afghanistan. Lute was originally selected by George W. Bush to serve for the same position in May 2007. Bush dubbed the position "War Czar". His position was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 28, 2007.

Lute is married to Jane Holl Lute, Obama's nominee for the position of deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

  1. 1975: Graduates from West Point Military Academy
  2. 1990-1991: Serves in Operation Desert Storm
  3. 2001: Appointed Brigadier General
  4. 2003: Deputy Director of Operations for United States European Command
  5. 2007: Selected for position of deputy national security adviser for Iraq and Afghanistan
