Doug Savant is a television and film actor who has been active in the business since the 1980s. Savant rose to fame in the 1990s as a main cast member on the primetime soap opera Melrose Place as Matt Fielding. He went on to appear in a variety of television shows and movies, including in 2004 when he was cast as a series regular in the ABC hit show Desperate Housewives. In his early acting career, Savant had small roles in several television shows and films including the 1985 classic Teen Wolf. In the late 1980s, Savant had a recurring role on the television drama Knots Landing, on which he appeared in seven episodes. Smaller roles came on shows such as The Facts of Life, In the Heat of the Night, China Beach and Columbo. Savant joined the Melrose Place cast in 1992 to portray Matt Fielding, one of the first openly gay characters on network television. He held the role through 1998, at which time his character was written out of the series. He went on to have other smaller roles on television including in CSI, NYPD Blue, 24, NCIS and Nip/Tuck, among others. His role on Desperate Housewives came in 2004 and has continued in the years since.
