NHL Career
Janik was drafted 55th overall in the 1999 NHL draft by the Buffalo Sabres. He did not join the NHL right away, but played two additional seasons at the University of Maine. In 2001, Janik joined the Sabres' American Hockey League affiliate, the Rochester Americans. He made his NHL debut in 2003 and split his first two seasons between the Sabres and the Americans. He played exclusively with the Americans during the 2004-05 NHL lockout and the 2005-06 regular season. On July 6, 2006, Janik signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
He played two seasons in Tampa Bay before entering the free agency and signing with the Chicago Blackhawks. Before playing a single game with the Blackhawks, Janik was waived and picked up by the Dallas Stars. He went back to Chicago briefly in 2008, but was traded right back to the Stars.
