Doris Day is an American actress and singer whose career spanned many decades. She first achieved fame as a vocalist with the Les Brown Band in the 1940s singing hits such as "Sentimental Journey," which were especially popular with US troops serving overseas during the Second World War.
Her movie career started in 1948 with the hit musical Romance on the High Seas. Subsequently she appeared in many major films such as Calamity Jane and The Man Who Knew Too Much, appearing opposite actors such as James Stewart, Clark Gable and Rock Hudson.
Later Career
With the cultural and musical changes of the 1960s, Doris Day was somewhat sidelined, but she nevertheless starred in two TV series, The Doris Day Show from 1968-1973 and Doris Day and Friends from 1985-1986.
Now retired from show business, Doris Day resides in Carmel, California, where she is the co-owner of the Cypress Inn hotel and runs the Doris Day Animal Foundation.http://www.dorisday.com/
