Scottish singer/songwriter Donovan began his career in 1965 as a frequent performer on the pop television program Ready Steady Go!. He is known for his psychedelic blend of rock, jazz and folk on songs such as "Catch The Wind," "Hurdy-Gurdy Man," "Jennifer Juniper" and "Atlantis."
Donovan was a close friend to The Beatles and influenced John Lennon's and Paul McCartney's guitar playing with his finger-picking style. He contributed lyrics to their song "Yellow Submarine."http://www.donovan.ie/en/

Donavan's University
Donavan announces that the time is right to honor the request made of him by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Donavan has plans to build the “Invincible Donovan University”, where students practice and adhere to the principles and practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique.
"I know it sounds like an airy-fairy hippie dream to go on about '60s peace and love, but the world is ready for this now. It is clear this is the time." Donavan has said the university will be located either in Glasgow or Edinburgh Scotland.http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003664673#/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003664673
The Transcendental Meditation Connection
In 1968 Donovan traveled to India along with his friends The Beatles to meet and study with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Today, Donovan is still active as a practitioner and promoter of Transcendental Meditation.
Perhaps not as famous as the relationship between the Beatles and Maharishi, but Donovan has maintained a close relationship with Transcendental Meditation and Maharishi ever since that first meeting and instruction back in 1968.
In a 1998 interview Donovan is quoted as saying:
“The Maharishi taught us meditation and we were interested before that but we didn’t know how to meditate. ... Then I learned some visualization from Celtic mythology. But mostly I concentrate on the very simple TM method which is really breathing and a mantra. As I do this over the years I feel it enters my life. That is very important thing which the Maharishi taught us.”http://www.ru.org/arts-and-culture/an-interview-with-donovan.html
In 2007 he appears in a PBS special with film director David Lynch, whose foundation is working with the Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, to bring TM into classrooms for kids from 6 to 16.http://www.globalcountry.org.uk/news.php?f=uk20070602a_8980.htm&y=&cat=a
On January 12, 2008 Donovan performed for Maharishi on his 91st birthday. Less than a month later on February 6, 2008 Maharishi passes from this life.http://www.globalcountry.org.uk/news.php?f=uk20070602a_8980.htm&y=&cat=a
