    Cromartie attended Lakewood Ranch High School where he lettered in track as a sprinter and high jumper and in football as a wide receiver and cornerback. He flourished as a cornerback, getting a four star rating by Rivals.com as one of the best in the South. Despite the rating by Rivals.com he was named the most underrated prospect in Florida by The High School Recruiting Report.
  • At Tennessee State

    Cromartie enrolled at Tennessee State University in 2004 sharing playing time his freshman season. He became full time starter at cornerback his sophomore season and remained starter the next three seasons. In 39 games he started, opposing teams completed just 34 percent of their 161 passes thrown his way. Cromartie intercepted 11, deflected 25 and allowed only 3.5 yards per pass attempt (the best of any cornerback in the past 3 seasons). He scored 5 defensive touchdowns and blocked 8 kicks as well as occasionally fielding punts and kickoffs. Not only did Cromartie play football, but he excelled in track being named top male athlete at the OVC Indoor Track Championships.
