Dolce & Gabbana is an Italian fashion house started by Domenico Dolce and Stefanco Gabbana and based in the city of Milan. Domenico Dolce, from Sicily, and Stefano Gabbana, from Milan, met in 1980 when they were both working as assistants at a fashion house in Milan. They started their own custom order business in 1982 but were not officially on the map of fashion until participating in the Milano Collezioni's "New Talents" fashion show. They launched their first line in 1986 and immediately won international acclaim. This led to the opening of their first boutique in 1989, in Japan.
