  • MLB on LSD

Despite leading the Pittsburgh Pirates to a national championship in 1971, Ellis is perhaps remembered for a June 12, 1970, game in which he pitched a no-hitter against the San Diego Padres while under the influence of LSD. Ellis took the hallucinogen after arriving in California, under the impression that he had the rest of the day off. Later on, his girlfriend woke him up telling him he need to go pitch as he was scheduled to start the first game of the Pirates' double header. Although saying that sometimes he could not see the batter or the catcher, Ellis won the game with a 2-0 score.YouTube Video: Dock Ellis' LSD No-Hitter
