The Open Directory Project (also known as DMOZ, ODP) is a large web directory managed by unpaid editors. Since the project's inception in 1998, 80,000 volunteer editors have entered approximately 4.5 million websites in the almost 600,000 categories available in the directory. The once popular project has faced numerous difficulties in recent years, including the accusation of corrupt editors, technical problems, and strong competition. In September 2008, it was reported that DMOZ owner AOL was considering selling DMOZ to competing directory Best of the Web, though no deal has yet been reported.Official Site: DMOZ Web Pro News: DMOZ Selling to BOTW
