  • Russian professional hockey player Dmitry Afanasenkov most recently played for the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League. In 2007, he joined the Dynamo Moscow of the Russian Super League.
  • NHL Career

    Afanasenkov was drafted 72nd overall in the 1998 NHL draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He played two seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Sherbrooke Castors before joining the Lightning in 2000 for his NHL debut. Between 2001 and 2003, Afanasenkov played in the American Hockey League, for the Springfield Falcons and the Grand Rapids Griffins. He rejoined the Lightning during the 2003-04 season, then played in Russia during the 2004-05 NHL lockout. On December 30, 2006, Afanasenkov was claimed off of waivers by the Philadelphia Flyers. He played one season with the Flyers before signing with the Dynamo Moscow in 2007.
