American actor and comedian D.L. Hughley got his start in show business doing stand-up comedy and then became the first host of the BET show Comic View. In 1994, Hughley starred in his own HBO stand-up special.
In 2008 Hughley signed on as the host of the CNN program D.L. Career
From 1998-2002, he starred as "Darryl Hughley" on ABC (and later UPN) television series The Hughleys. In 1999 he co-hosted New Year's Rockin' Eve with Elise Neal and in 2003, he hosted the Comedy Central's Premium Blend.
Hughley starred alongside Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac in Spike Lee's 2000 stand-up comedy film The Kings of Comedy. In 2006, he played "Simon Stiles" on the Aaron Sorkin show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.
Controversy
In 2007, shortly after radio talk show host Don Imus was fired for his negative references toward the players on the Rutgers University basketball team, Hughley referred to them as "some of the ugliest women I've ever seen" during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
