Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean

Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean is a boat ride at the Disney Parks. This was one of the last rides that Walt Disney helped design during his lifetime. This classic ride attracts all ages. At three of the parks, the ride is located in Adventureland but at Disneyland, it is located at New Orleans Square.

The ride begins by passing a skeleton pirate that guards a Spanish fortress called El Castillo-Torre del Sol. As guests pass him, they enter a cave-like area and here guests board their boat. As the boat take guest through the town, they can be on the lookout for Captain Jack Sparrow. He and other pirates are looking for a map to a treasure. Guests will see pirates playing chess, cunning women, a plundered town and buildings burning. All the while the popular song, Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirates Life for Me plays.

The highlight of the ride is hitting the rough water and plummeting down a 14-foot waterfall. Cannons fire all around the guest as a battle blazes between Captain Barbossa and Captain Jack Sparrow.http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/parks/magic-kingdom/attractions/pirates-of-the-caribbean/

A well-known scene included in the ride is a playful dog holding keys away from imprisoned pirates. This scene has been included in some way in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. This ride is unique as it was this ride that inspired the movie and now the movie has inspired the ride. The Pirates attraction was updated after the movies release to include the characters Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Barbossa and Davy Jones. When paying close attention to the movie, other scenes from the ride can be detected.http://www.disneymouselinks.com/Pirates-Caribbean-Ride.aspx

Considerations

This ride has no height requirement and is an indoor ride. It is considered fun for everyone, a mild but wild ride by Disney. However, it is a dark ride with some scary elements for small children.http://themeparks.about.com/cs/disneyparks/fr/potc.htm

History

Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean ride first opened in Disneyland in 1967. It was originally conceived as a walk-through show un the Walt Disney Imagineering team created some presentations for the 1964 World’s Fair using the more advanced Audio-Animatronics. The decision was made to use this method for the ride. The popular theme song, Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a pirate’s life for me was created by X. Atencio and George Bruns.http://www.wdisneyw.co.uk/atpoc.html
