Ethiopian distance runner Dire Tune won the 2008 Boston Marathon, besting Russian Alevtina Biktimirova by two seconds, the closest finish ever in the women's race. Tune completed her Boston Marathon debut in 2 hours, 25 minutes and 25 seconds. She is the first Ethiopian woman to win th erace since Fatuma Roba in 1999 and the youngest Boston Marathon winner since 21-year-old Joan Benoit Samuelson took the title back in 1979.
