Reviews: Dinner for Schmucks
This video recaps the reviews on Dinner for Schmucks, which opens July 30, 2010 in the US.
''Dinner for Schmucks'' Plot
Dinner for Schmucks stars Paul Rudd as Tim Conrad - a high-powered business executive gunning for a promotion. When his boss invites him to a monthly dinner party, Conrad agrees enthusiastically. The dinner party is actually a "dinner for idiots" - guests are encouraged to bring the most eccentric, outrageous people they can find to the gathering. When Conrad meets IRS employee Barry Speck (Steve Carell), he decides to bring his new "friend" along to the party. Speck has an unusual hobby - he makes "Mousterpieces" out of dead mice, posing them as works of art (complete with tiny costumes).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-FHlvEc3vaE http://articles.latimes.com/2010/may/02/entertainment/la-ca-schmucks-20100502
Review Quotes for ''Dinner for Schmucks''
"Though Carell and Rudd are both saddled with characters that just aren't as interesting as many they've played in the past, the movie benefits from having drawn many gifted comedians to supporting roles."— John DeFore, The Hollywood Reporterhttp://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/film-reviews/dinner-for-schmucks-film-review-1004104803.story
"An uproarious odd-couple remake of Francis Veber's hit French farce "The Dinner Game."— Peter Debruge, Varietyhttp://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/dinnerforschmucks
"The cast is effortlessly wittier than the sitcom-grade material they’re supplied with..."— Aaron Hillis, Time Out New Yorkhttp://newyork.timeout.com/articles/film/87630/dinner-for-schmucks-film-review
"Drawing on the leads' screen personas, the film is well cast. With his soft, good looks and pleasant demenaor, Paul Rudd plays the straight man. Steve Carell is also well cast as the loner-loser, the hapless, innocent schmuck who "stumbles" into a humiliation scheme and then turns it around."— Emanuel Levy, EmanuelLevy.comhttp://emanuellevy.com/reviews/details.cfm?id=16019
"Paramount Pictures and director Jay Roach would like to invite you to a dinner they're hosting, at which you are welcome to laugh at these poor jerks. That's a little messed up."— Dan Kois, Village Voicehttp://www.villagevoice.com/2010-07-27/film/mental-disability-as-comedy-in-dinner-for-schmucks/
"“Dinner for Schmucks” has a few of the hard laughs that you long for, but it also inspires sustained giggles that build and ebb. There’s a surprising sweetness to the film that rarely crosses the line into sentimentality – just enough so that you can laugh and still feel the film’s heart without feeling manipulated."— Marshall Fine, Hollywood & Finehttp://hollywoodandfine.com/reviews/?p=2590
