Digital cameras capture and store photographs electronically in a digital format, rather than on film. Many digital cameras can also record video and audio. Some of the world's leading manufacturers of digital cameras, such as Canon and Nikon, have stopped producing film cameras.http://gizmodo.com/176239/canon-to-cease-film-camera-production Digital cameras are now commonly found in cellphones, particularly in smartphones.
Digital cameras have replaced film cameras in the world of photography. They can display images immediately after a picture is taken, and the photographer can then choose to delete, edit, or save the image. The images can then be uploaded to a computer or printed as photos.
History
The first recorded attempt to create a digital camera came in 1975 by an associate at Kodak.http://www.womeninphotography.org/Events-Exhibits/Kodak/EasyShare_3.html The idea was again revisited in the 1980s, when the first megapixel sensor was developed in 1986. Two years later, Fujifilm released the first digital camera, the DS-1P.http://www.digicamhistory.com/1988.html Other manufacturers have developed their own models in the years since, with an increased number of megapixels and features at a decreased cost.

Fujifilm 3D Camera
Dave Etchells of Imaging Resource talks to Mikio Watanabe, the engineer who developed Fujifilm's prototype digital camera that takes three dimensional pictures. Etchells compares the camera to the Viewmaster viewers in the past. The 3D images that appear on the camera's LCD screen do not show as 3D on the video, but Watanabe explains the mechanism that allows the camera to show 3D images on the screen. And he says that the same light control technology is used for the camera's picture frame and printer.
