Rose Replaces Adelson as CEO

On April 5, 2010, it was announced that Jay Adelson would be stepping down as Digg CEO and replaced by founder and chairman, Kevin Rose. Adelson said that he felt an "entrepreneurial calling" and wanted to go work for smaller companies. The news came as Digg is preparing for a major relaunch, which will include updates in real-time.http://thenextweb.com/socialmedia/2010/04/05/kevin-rose-return-digg-ceo-position-jay-adelson-advisor/ Adelson will remain on with the company as an advisor.

Starting Up Digg

Kevin Rose came up with the idea for Digg in the Fall of 2003. Rose hired a programmer from Elance at $10 per hour to bring his creation to life. By February of 2006, Digg had become a huge force in the area of social news as millions of users turned to it for their daily news. Along with the site's success, several companies have attempted to launch services to rig or artificially inflate the popularity of stories on Digg. To combat abuse, Digg has implemented several fraud detection layers into its algorithm.

Diggnation

The weekly podcast series "Diggnation," hosted by Rose and Alex Albrecht from a couch, follows popular stories from the Digg site. The show airs on the Revision3 online network, and debuted in July of 2005. Live episodes of the show have been recorded in Los Angeles, London, San Francisco and New York City and often feature special guests. The name "Diggnation" was originally suggested as a name for the website.
