Background
Diego Sanchez began karate lessons at the age of nine. Years of martial arts training aided his athletic pursuits at Del Norde High School as a wrestler and on the high school gridiron as a linebacker. In Sanchez's senior year in 2000, he won the state championship in the 152 lb weight class. Making his mixed martial arts debut in 2002, he fought in small shows, mostly the King of the Cage promotion, and trained with Greg Jackson his entire career. On September 22, 2007, he fought against Jon Fitch at UFC 76 in the welterweight division. In 2006, at UFC Fight Night 7, he had his first knockout win of his career.
