Diego Sanchez is a mixed martial arts professional who won a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship after appearing on The Ultimate Fighter and defeating Kenny Florian.
On February 21, 2009, Sanchez faced off against Joe Stevenson in the main event of UFC 95. Sanchez won the fight, his first as a lightweight, by unanimous decision. Background
Diego Sanchez began karate lessons at the age of nine. Years of martial arts training aided his athletic pursuits at Del Norde High School as a wrestler and on the high school gridiron as a linebacker. In Sanchez's senior year in 2000, he won the state championship in the 152 lb weight class. Making his mixed martial arts debut in 2002, he fought in small shows, mostly the King of the Cage promotion, and trained with Greg Jackson his entire career. On September 22, 2007, he fought against Jon Fitch at UFC 76 in the welterweight division. In 2006, at UFC Fight Night 7, he had his first knockout win of his career. -
