  • Die Hard is an action film franchise produced by Joel Silver and starring Bruce Willis. The original 1988 film is actually an adaptation of the book titled Nothing Lasts Forever by novelist Roderick Thorpe, which inspired the main character John McClane, although the later films in the series abandoned this source material. The Die Hard film franchise has established John McClane as an enduring anti-hero icon, with his aggressively irreverent and comic persona.
  • Die Hard (1988)

Lt. John McClane has flown from New York (where he usually operates as a police officer) out to Los Angeles for Christmas to visit his wife Holly (Bonnie Bedelia) and their family. McClane meets her at her office at Nakatomi Plaza for a company Christmas party. The plaza is soon taken over by Hans Gruber (Alan Ricman) and his crew of terrorists, who seek money stored in the Nakatomi Plaza vault. McClane attempts to thwart the terrorists, and save his wife and the hostages.
