Die Hard is an action film franchise produced by Joel Silver and starring Bruce Willis. The original 1988 film is actually an adaptation of the book titled Nothing Lasts Forever by novelist Roderick Thorpe, which inspired the main character John McClane, although the later films in the series abandoned this source material. The Die Hard film franchise has established John McClane as an enduring anti-hero icon, with his aggressively irreverent and comic persona.
