Causes
The most common cause of diarrhea is a virus. You can also get diarrhea from bacteria such as when you get food poisoning. Other causes of diarrhea are eating things that upset your digestive system, food allergies, medications and radiation therapy. Laxative abuse and alcohol abuse can also cause diarrhea. It is also possible for diarrhea to follow constipation especially for people with irritable bowel syndrome.
Treatment
Mild diarrhea can be allowed to run its course and treated with over the counter medications. Pepto-Bismol, Imodium A-D and Kaopectate are popular choices for treating diarrhea. It is also important to drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.

- Wash hands frequently
- Use pasteurized dairy products
