The Diaper-Free Baby Movement is founded on the belief that babies are born with an instinctive ability to signal when they have to go to the bathroom. Parents who practice this form of "elimination communication" mimic their children's body language and the sounds children associate with the bathroom in order to train them to recognize their own elimination needs.
When a child needs to go, he or she is held over a toilet or portable pot whose contents can be flushed.
