Diana Ross is an R&B singer and actress who rose to prominence in the 1960s as the lead singer of the all-girl group The Supremes.
On July 1, 2009, following the death of Michael Jackson, his will was filed in a Los Angeles court. Jackson's will names his mother, Katherine Jackson, as the guardian of his his children. If anything should happen to her, Jackson requested that Diana Ross become guardian.
On July 7,2009 Diana Ross did not attend Michael Jackson's memorial service, instead she sent a letter that was read at the service by Smokey Robinson.
On October 16 and 17, 2009 she was the main headliner at Symphonica in Rosso, which is an annual Dutch concert event, where she was accompanied by a forty piece orchestra, and each night wasn't far from a sell out show.
In January 2010, Motown Records put out various tracks from an unreleased album entitled For the Baby and also released an extended version of the already existing Touch Me In The Morning album.
The Supremes
Ross was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 26, 1944. For a time, Ross' family lived in the northern side of Detroit's streets where Ross befriended next-door neighbor Smokey Robinson. Ross' father moved his children to live with relatives in Bessemer, Alabama when her mther contracted Tuberculosis and became very sick. After her mother recovered, her family moved back to Detroit, and lived in the Brewster-Douglass projects. The following year, Ross began her music career with neighborhood friends Mary Wilson,Florence Ballard, and Betty McGlown as the doo-wop quartet "The Primettes" (later renamed The Supremes), a sister group to local act "The Primes" (later The Temptations).
