Story
The game picks up right where Diablo II leaves off. Diablo and Mephisto, the two “Prime Evils” from Diablo (1996) and Diablo II (2000), have been vanquished. However, Baal reveals himself as the third and final brother, steals the only remaining Sunstone, and wages wage against humans. Baal begins with Sescheron, a barbarian city at the base of Mount Arreat. You must end Baal's path of destruction, and stop him from acquiring the Worldstone, which controls all of the Sunstones.
Gameplay
Diablo II: Lord of Destruction maintains much of the hack-'n-slash gameplay that popularized the first entries, while also making a number of additions: there are two new character classes in the game, the Assassin and the Druid; “Runes” can be combined with weapons for additional effects; “Hirelings” can accompany you into battle; “Runewords” can be activated by combining specific Runes to a certain weapon, and other upgrades.
