The Director's Guild of America announced its nominations on January 8, 2009. The DGA nominates five outstanding directors every year who are from a variety of genre backgrounds. The winner will be announced on January 31, 2009, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in California.

Director's Guild of America
The Director's Guild of America (DGA) was founded in 1936, orginally under the name of Screen Directors Guild. It currently is composed of 14,000 members. In regards to future awards predictions, the DGA has been known as a fairly accurate predictor of Oscar success.
