The third season of Dexter ended with Rita revealing her pregnancy to Dexter and lying about her two previous marriages. The serial killer has decided to settle in with his new wife Rita and her two children and trying to lead an even more normal life.

Aside from Dexter coping with a new marriage and Rita's tumultuous pregnancy, the whole Miami police department is dealing with their own problems. The mysterious Quinn is still under scrutiny and Debra is investigating who Harry was involved with in the past. An affair did happen between Dexter's birth mother and Debra may eventually find the connection between the Ice Truck Killer and Dexter. Dexter has been renewed for two additional seasons so the extension will give the various story lines a chance to possibly wrap.
