After the 2010 NFL Draft, McCluster joined the Kansas City Chiefs as a rookie, playing in his professional debut on September 13, 2010. He wasted little time making an impact, playing on special teams and breaking a team record by returning a punt for 94 yards to score a touchdown against the San Diego Chargers. College Football Career
In college, McCluster had a quite notable career playing with the Ole Miss Rebels football team, serving as a running back and wide receiver. He debuted as a freshman in 2006, playing six games before he was sidelined with a shoulder injury. His college football success continued as a junior in 2008, adding 44 receptions for 625 yards and a touchdown, plus 109 rushes for 655 yards and six additional scores. McCluster was one of only two players that season to rank within the top 10 for receptions, receiving yards, rushing yards and total yards. His senior season was his statistically best, putting up 44 receptions for 520 yards and three touchdowns along with 181 rushes for 1,169 yards and eight touchdowns. As a result, McCluster was named to the All-SEC team, the All-American third team and received honors from the College Football Performance Awards. Playing in his first professional game, receiver Dexter McCluster returned a kick from the San Diego Chargers for 94 yards to score a touchdown. Not only was the play impressive for a rookie in his first NFL game, it was also a Kansas City Chiefs record. The Chiefs went on win the game, and their next two to open the 2010 season, much to the surprise of the rest of the league. In 2009, the Chiefs finished the season with a 4-12 record for last place in the AFC.
