Devin McCourty is a NFL Corner back for the New England Patriots. He was drafted by the team with the 27th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
Heading into the 2010 draft McCourty was regarded as one of the top five CB prospects, who had a borderline first round grade. Given his history as a play maker that seems kind of odd, but it points towards flaws in how NFL Scouts and Draft pundits think of draft prospects. McCourty went to a smaller school In Rutgers, who play in a conference that is not exactly considered a powerhouse. Those are two big obstacles that he had to overcome to become a first round draft pick.
The Book on him was that he was a fine all around player, but may not have the skill set to be a major contributor at the NFL level. After finishing a fine career college, McCourty impressed all in pre-draft work out and ran a 4.38 second 40 yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine. That shot him up the draft boards, and led directly to him becoming a first round draft pick. http://www.fftoolbox.com/nfl_draft/profile_display.cfm?Prospect_ID=2225
Devin is the twin brother of Jason McCourty, who was drafted in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans
