During a game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears on November 22, 2009, Bears wide receiver Devin Hester had his pants pulled down on the field in the middle of a play, exposing his butt to the crowd and the television audience viewing the game on NBC. Quarterback Jay Cutler had thrown a pass to Hester, which went incomplete, and Hester's pants were accidentally removed during the ensuing tackle. The Bears eventually lost the game to the Eagles, 24-20.

There was talk of making Devin Hester a specialist again, but Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz says they are going to keep Hester on offense this fall as a wide receiver. Martz says he thinks Hester is "the best special teams return guy in the league." Hester's full season receiver average is 54 catches for 711 yards. Devin signed a four year contract extension with the Chicago Bears on July 27, 2008. Hester's contracted pay for these four years is $40,975,000. $15,000,000 of this is guaranteed to go to Hester no matter what happens. $5 million of it was a signing bonus.
