Devin Ebanks

Devin Ebanks is a sophomore forward for the West Virginia Mountaineers men's basketball team. Ebanks signed with West Virginia in May 2008, playing his freshman season in 2008-2009. He was ranked one of the top high school basketball players in the country by numerous scouting services. He is considered an excellent scorer who can score in a variety of ways and an excellent shooter for a player with his size and strength. FOXSports.com reported on April 12, 2010 that Ebanks will declare for the NBA Draft, but had not yet decided whether to sign with an agent

He had 273 rebounds his freshman year, which was the second most in school history by a freshman. Ebanks, along with teammate Da'Sean Butler, were among 50 named to the watch list for the Naismith Trophy, which is awarded to the top player in college basketball, for the 2009-2010 season. The Mountaineers were ranked 6th and 7th to end the 2009-2010 regular season in the two major polls with a 24-6 record. The Mountaineers finished the Big East season tied for second place in the league.http://www.msnsportsnet.com/profile.cfm?id=101739 http://www.msnsportsnet.com/page.cfm?story=15397 Ebanks helped lead the Mountaineers to a Big East Tournament Championship before advancing to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament before losing to Duke. NBA Draft Prospects

Ebanks will be entering the 2010 NBA Draft. He has generally been considered to be a potential first round pick and a potential lottery pick by some. According to draft analysts, he is rated highly because of his length and large wingspan. Ebanks is credited with good hands and a great ability to rebound, particularly on the offensive end. Defensively, he is often put on the opposition's best player and has shown the ability to be a shut-down defender. He also has some weaknesses that could affect his draft position. According to scouts, he has limited range as a shooter and has, at times, shown a reluctance to shoot the ball. He is also said to need to add weight to his lanky frame before he will be able to compete at the NBA level.http://www.nbadraft.net/players/devin-ebanks

Quotes

“I felt comfortable last year at my playing weight, but now that I’ve gained a little bit, it probably won’t be easier for opponents to bump me off the ball when I go to the basket. When I rebound, it will probably be a lot easier to hold my ground and box out.”—Devin Ebankshttp://www.msnsportsnet.com/page.cfm?story=15166

“Watching Joe Alexander play the year before and getting recruited by Coach Huggins; it really helped my decision because I saw his progress through that year.”—Devin Ebankshttp://www.msnsportsnet.com/page.cfm?story=15166
