The Devils won the Atlantic Division, giving them the second seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Philadelphia qualified on the last day of the season with a shootout victory over the New York Rangers and was slotted as the seventh seed. The series began on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 when the Flyers rode goals by Chris Pronger and Mike Richards while getting 23 saves from Brian Boucher to stun the Devils and Martin Brodeur by a score of 2-1.
