Devil May Cry 4 is a 2008 action game developed by Capcom for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Canonically, it is third in the established timeline, taking place after the events of the original. Unlike the previous entries, Devil May Cry 4 marks the first time that players must progress through a significant portion of the storyline as a character other than Dante.
Story
The new protagonist to the series is Nero, an extremely powerful half-demon/half-human warrior with a demonic forearm and silver hair. When Nero attends a ceremony for the Order of the Sword with his romantic interest Kyrie, Dante (the protagonist from the previous games) breaks into the temple and assassinates a high priest named Sanctus. Credo, Kyrie's brother and leader of the Order of the Sword Knights, commands Nero to retrieve Dante. During his search, he discovers that the city is overrun with “Scarecrow” monsters. He must then infiltrate Fortuna Castle, defeat the monsters, find Dante, and investigate the cause all of the demonic energy in the city.
Gameplay
Devil May Cry 4 is a fast-paced action game, in which you control Nero and Dante via a third-person perspective while fighting several enemies at once. The combat uses a feedback-based combat system that rewards lengthier combos with additional “style points.” Attaining higher style point ratings will cause enemies to drop an increased amount of various "Orbs" that can be absorbed to refill your character's life and magic meter. A newly implemented weapon in the game is the Devil Bringer, Nero's demonic forearm, which can be used to snatch enemies nearby, or even body slam certain boss enemies. The game consists of 20 main missions, with 12 optional Secret Missions which award Blue Orb Fragments (raises health) for completion.
