Patel became known to the public through his portrayal of Anwar Kharral on the British dramedy Skins. He stars as a virgin who relentlessly tries to lose his virginity. The show aired in the U.S. on the E4 network in August 2008.
In 2008, he assumed the starring role of Slumdog Millionaire's Jamal Malik, a young teen from India who ends up winning the Indian version of the game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire?.
