The Detroit Zoo was founded in 1928 at a site on famous Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak--a Detroit suburb. In its first four months of operation alone, more than 1.5 million people visited the zoo, and has remained a popular attraction for Motor City residents and visitors alike.
