Detroit Tigers Tickets

Although there were other professional baseball teams which had represented the city of Detroit prior to 1901, the Detroit Tigers were the first to play Major League Baseball, becoming part of the American League on April 25, 1901. They played their first game against Milwaukee. Trailing in the ninth inning 13 - 4, they engineered a 14 - 13 comeback win when left-handed batting Frank "Pop" Dillon came up with a double that plated 2 runs.

In 1905, the greatest player in Tiger history and arguably of all time was acquired by the Detroiters, Tyrus Raymond Cobb.http://www.cmgww.com/baseball/cobb/ Known as Ty, he played 22 years with Detroit before moving on and retiring 2 years later, still a .300 hitter. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1936.

Through the years the Tigers have played at Bennett Park 1901 - 1911, an L-shaped ballpark constructed on the corner of Michigan Ave. and Trumbull. A new park was built over the winter months on this same location and named, Navin Field 1912 - 1937. This park was modified and named Briggs Stadium 1938 - 1960. At the end of the season it was renamed to Tiger Stadium and housed the team from 1961 to 1999. The Tigers moved into their new stadium, Comerica Park for the beginning of the 2000 season. The stadium had been built in downtown Detroit, a block off of Woodward Ave, leaving the old home-site vacant before finally being demolished.http://www.youtube.com/v/JFphW81HpOE&hl=en_US&fs=1&

The Tigers have won 4 World Championships and 10 American league pennants. The team also lists 20 players and 6 managers as Hall of Fame members.http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/det/history/hall_of_famers.jsp

The organization has also won 100 or more games on 5 occasions, 1915 – 100, 1934 – 101, 1961 – 101, 1968 – 103, and in 1984 when they won the most in franchise history, 104.http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/det/history/year_by_year_results.jsp

Normally tickets are readily available to watch the Tigers on game day, but it is always good practice to purchase tickets early. When inter-league play begins or the New York Yankees hit town you can expect sell-out crowds. You can also expect sell-outs deep into the season if the team is in a Pennant chase or holding onto first place. Fans from MOTOWN are avid but courteous to visitors from out of town, more so than in many other stadiums.

The best and safest way to obtain tickets is through Ticketmaster, visiting the team box office.http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/det/ticketing/ballparkguide_list.jsp or by calling the box office directly at 1-866-66-TIGER.

Detroit Tigers Tickets Pro-Tips

Obtaining Tickets for a Soldout MLB Game

If you start a few days early, you can visit Stubhub and check the availability of game tickets. This is where fans who have made other plans or decided they do not want to use their tickets, can put them up for sale. If you purchase from this site, you are buying through a reputable dealer and can feel relatively safe making your purchase.

Craigslist is an alternative site to search for and purchase tickets to the game you are interested in. When purchasing from here, it is recommended you do so in person and verify your tickets are legitimate. Unlike Stubhub, you may well find phony offers or scam artists looking for an easy target. This is a good site to find a variety of items, but take care not to be taken. As a side note, you can also POST here yourself for games you are looking to buy tickets to.

Game day scalpers are also a method of obtaining tickets. You can usually find these guys selling & pushing tickets on the streets around the stadium. Similar to Craigslist, be sure you know what you are buying before handing over any monies.

Also continue to check the Tigers sitehttp://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/ticketing/index.jsp?c_id=det. Sometimes there are tickets that are issued to players for personal use that go unused and periodically become available.

Remember, there will be times that tickets are being sold above face value and there will be nothing you can do, but suck it up and put out the bucks if you must attend the game. Try your best to make any purchases well before the game and from reputable sellershttp://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/ticketing/index.jsp?c_id=det.
