Detective Edgar Rios allegedly waited over two years before telling the family of missing woman Amber Ramsey, that she was dead. Ramsey was reported missing in February of 2006, her body, coat and ID were found just seven months later. Her parents were notified in March of 2008. It was reported that the woman died of a drug overdose.
Detective Edgar Rios was charged with 28 departmental violations and removed from the Trenton, New Jersey homicide unit.
The 2007 Officer of the Year and 27 year police force veteran said that he delayed telling the family because he wanted to ensure the forensic evidence checked out, Police Director Joseph Santiago said there was no evidence of that being the case.
