Published by DC Comics, Detective Comics is an ongoing American comic book series that is notable for introducing the character of Batman in its twenty-seventh issue.
-
Synopsis
The first issue of Detective Comics was an anthology comic book featuring a Chinese villain named Ching Lung on the cover. Other characters featured in the first issue include Speed Saunders and Slam Bradley (who was originally written by Superman creators Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel).Detective Comics #27 marked the debut of Bob Kane's Batman who eventually became the sole character of the comic series by the 1970s. Detective Comics also introduced his sidekick Robin and the villains The Riddler and Two-Face in subsequent years.
With over 800 continuously published issues since its debut, Detective Comics is the longest running comic book in the U.S. - surpassing that of Action Comics, even though Superman was created before Batman.
