  • Career

Destinys Child's roots trace back "Gyrl's Time", a hip-hop/dance group consisting of preteen girls who toured the country. After a failed appearance on Star Search, Matthew Knowles, father of member Beyonce Knowles, took over as manager of the group. They toured as an opening act for many popular R&B; groups and were signed to Columbia Records in 1997. There first single, No, No, No reached number one on the Billboard Top R&B; with the help of producer Wyclef Jean. Destiny's Child went on to release two more successful albums. In 2000, members LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett attempted to find a new manager while remaining in the group because they felt they were not receiving their fair share. They were replaced by Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. Within months, Franklin left the group for personal reason and their success continued. From 2002 - 2004 the group went on hiatus while the members pursued solo projects. In 2005 They released a reunion album, Destiny Fulfilled, which sold over 6 million copies. The group is currently not working together but remain friends and appear in each other's work often.
