• Football Career

  Prior to playing in the NFL, Townsend played college football with the Alabama Crimson Tide in the NCAA. He earned a starting role his freshman season and went on to record 129 tackles, three sacks and seven interceptions, leading to All-SEC honors.Official Site of the Pittsburgh Steelers: Deshea Townsend

  After college, Townsend was selected 117th overall in the 1998 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He made his professional debut that same year, playing in 12 games. Townsend continued with the Steelers in the years since, playing in nearly every regular season game. Two of his best seasons came in 2004 and 2005, recording a total of 110 tackles, seven sacks and six interceptions to help the Steelers win Super Bowl XL.NFL.com: Deshea Townsend
