Early Life
Thomas Derrick Turnbow was born in Union City, Tennessee on January 25, 1978. Turnbow was originally drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies on June 3, 1997. While still playing with the Phillies minor league teams, he was selected by the then named Anaheim Angels in theRule 5 Draft.
Pro Career
Turnbow made his MLB debut the following year with the Angels on April 17, 2000. He played 24 games in 2000, pitching 38 innings and finishing with a 4.74 earned runs average. Turnbow returned to the minors for the next two seasons, returning to the Angels for 11 games in 2003. He again spent the majority of the 2004 season in the minors, playing just four games with the Angels.
On October 14, 2004, Turnbow was claimed off of waivers by the Milwaukee Brewers. He earned a full roster spot with the Brewers starting in the 2005 season. Turnbow played 69 games with the Brewers in 2005, pitching 67.3 innings and finishing with a 1.74 ERA. Turnbow was selected for his first MLB All-Star Game appearance in 2006.MLB.com: Derrick Turnbow
