Derrick Favors is an American basketball player, and a power forward in the National Basketball Association. Favors played one year of college basketball at Georgia Tech, On June 24th, 2010, he was drafted by the New Jersey Nets with the number 3 overall pick in the NBA Draft. Derrick Favors was born on July 15, 1991 in Atlanta, Georgia. Derrick was Raised by his mother Deandra Favors, and he grew up with his older sister Tiffany and his younger brother Brandon. He began playing basketball at the age of 10. Favors has been compared to current NBA All-Star Al Hortford, who plays for the Atlanta Hawks. Derrick Favors played the 2009-2010 basketball season as a freshman for Georgia Tech, having selected that school over contenders Georgia, Memphis, and North Carolina State. In his freshman season, he played in 36 games and averaged 12.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game. He helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a record of 23-13. Despite finishing with a record of 7-9 within the Atlantic Coast Conference, Favors was able to help the team make a run in the conference tournament, before losing 65-61 to Duke in the tournament final. He also helped the team to a first round victory in the NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament, before losing 75-66 to Ohio State in the round of 32. Favors' play in his freshman year earned him many awards and accolades. He was named ACC Rookie of the Year and to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Last Season
Favors spent the the 2008-2009 season as a senior for South Atlanta High School. As a senior, he played in games and averaged. Favors led the Hornets to the Georgia Class AAA state championship, by defeating Westover High School. In the game, he scored 38 points and pulled in 21 rebounds. Favors was named to the 2009 McDonald's All-American Team, and was named MVP of the game. He won the award after leading the East to a 113–110 victory, by scoring 19 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Favors was also elected to play in the 2009 Nike Hoop Summit, but backed out. He listed personal reasons for not participating.
Favors eventually finished his senior season averaging 28.1 points, 13.3 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 3.0 steals and 2.0 assists per game.
